There was a time in Nigeria when, with a million naira or even less, one could purchase a brand-new tricycle, popularly known as a Keke NAPEP or keke Marwa. Those days are long behind as a million naira will not get you a good Nigerian-used keke.
The price of these three-wheelers has continued to go higher as a result of the economic difficulty in the country and the potential returns associated with keke. Another factor driving the cost of keke is the banning of motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in most states of the country.
Here is a look at the current prices of the different popular brands of keke in Nigeria, if you are going for a new three-wheeler.
Factors that determine the cost of keke in Nigeria
The price of a tricycle in Nigeria depends on several factors, such as the type (fuel or electric), brand, year of manufacture, and your location.
While electric keke are not popular in Nigeria, they are still available in the market, and they cost more than the fuel-engined motorcycles. Also, the brands of some tricycles, considered more reliable, are often more expensive than lesser brands.
In the same light, trikes with more recent manufacturing dates are costlier than older ones because it is believed that they are kitted with more recent features.
Your location is also important when you want to purchase a brand new keke. While it tends to be cheaper in places like Kano and Kaduna, it costs higher in Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers state.
