It is not enough to just have a car if you want to run a successful business as a Bolt or Uber driver in Nigeria. You need to get yourself one that is fuel-efficient, easy to maintain, and guarantees comfort for your passengers.

The success of your endeavour as an Uber or Bolt driver is closely tied to the kind of car you are using because of the ever-rising price of fuel in Nigeria. Hence, driving a fuel-efficient car is no longer an option; it’s a necessity if you want to minimise expenses and maximise profit.

Fuel-Efficient Cars for Uber and Bolt Drivers

1. Toyota Corolla

  • Fuel Consumption: ~12–14 km/litre

Toyota Corolla has become one of the favourite cars on the Nigerian roads because of its fuel efficiency and reliability. Described as a Nigerian workhorse, the car is also built for Nigerian roads and durability. The maintenance is not high. It has a spacious interior, making it comfortable for passengers.

2. Honda Civic

  • Fuel Consumption: ~11–13 km/litre

Honda Civic is another great option because it combines style, comfort, and fuel efficiency.  It handles well on both highways and city roads. What this car has over the Corolla is that it is not very expensive to purchase, and so it is a good one for people on a low budget wanting to start Uber or Bolt.

3. Toyota Yaris

  • Fuel Consumption: ~15–17 km/litre

This car may look rather compact, but it still has enough space to make it comfortable for passengers. Like most other Toyota cars, the Yaris is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in Nigeria. It’s perfect for city driving and can be used by Uber/Bolt drivers looking to save big on fuel.

4. Hyundai Accent

  • Fuel Consumption: ~13–15 km/litre

It has been a difficult journey for Hyundai to gain entry and acceptance into the Nigerian auto market, but now, it has earned its place for its great design and fuel economy. It also has a comfortable interior, making it a solid option for ride-hailing.

5. Hyundai Elantra

  • Fuel Consumption: ~12–13 km/litre

Another Hyundai on the list, this is a very popular car among Nigerians in general and Uber drivers. The Elantra combines comfort and fuel efficiency. It’s also stylish, which makes it appealing to riders.

6. Nissan Almera

  • Fuel Consumption: ~12–14 km/litre

The Nissan Almera is another great choice of a fuel-efficient car for Bolt or Uber in Nigeria. For someone who is looking for an affordable and fuel-efficient vehicle, this is a good one. It has decent cabin space and a comfortable interior. It’s not flashy, but it gets the job done efficiently.

7. Toyota Camry (2008 – 2012 models)

  • Fuel Consumption: ~10–12 km/litre

Of course, this may not be as economical as a Corolla or even Yaris, but getting either a “Big Daddy” or “Spider” model of Camry can be a good bet. It is still fuel-efficient when compared to many other cars, and it is spacious, durable, and attractive to passengers who prefer more comfort.
